What does Silènes means ? Silènes are small pink or white wild flowers situated in Chinon AOC areas such as in Beaumont-en-Véron plateaus where Domaine Charles Joguet is involved to protect the ecosystem and biodiversity.
Silène or Silenus is also a god in Greek Mythology, companion and tutor of Dionysus (the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine) of whom Rabelais talks in its Garguantua writings.
He is the god personifying drunkenness, represented like a very old man, cheerful, very big and ugly…but with an infinite wisdom !
